Getting to know your ideal client is imperative to a small business. Most people think they know their ideal client because they have the basic demographics down:
Although these are important and you need to know them, knowing more specific characteristics of your ideal client will help you create valuable content for them as well as make it easier for you to create a marketing strategy geared toward them.
For example my ideal clients are often:
- Moms
- College grads
- Run a service based business
- Have a corporate background (I do too!)
- Driven
- Passionate
- Independent
- Value assistance
- Positive/upbeat
A good way to determine more details about your ideal client is take a look at your client list.
- Who of your clients do you love working with?
- What attracts you to them?
- What are their commonalities?
Write them all down.
This will help you figure out more details about your ideal client. Obviously this will evolve as your business evolves but it’s a great place to start.
Once you have the specific characteristics down, you can start creating content for them and speaking to what drives them. This will help you get more specific. You don’t want to try to talk to everyone, and some might not be a great fit, and that is OK.
You care about your ideal client and how you can service them and their pain points.
