Planning Your Summer Schedule

The most important question to ask yourself when planning your summer work schedule is what do you want your summer to look like?

Most of our clients tend to plan their year so their summer is lighter as their kids are out of school and they want to spend more time with them and the flexibility to travel. 

This can be done by working more during the other 9 months of the year but there are other ways to lighten your workload when you need to if you haven’t planned ahead. 

Batch Work

Batch working is combining similar tasks together to maximize productivity. I find that planning and batching your monthly marketing activities in advance works really well that way you aren’t scrambling to do them with less time. All of the tasks below are my favorites to batch.

• Social media
• Newsletters
• Blogs 
• Any misc. content creation

Time Block

I know this is a controversial topic but I love time blocking, always have. When I first started my business I only had about 5-10 hours a week to work on my business because I was caring for my two young boys so time blocking literally saved me. Block out time for each client and stick to it. 

Here are a few quick tips!

• Use your calendar to block out the hours you are working on tasks. 

Example:

 9-10am: Social content creation

10-11am: Client 1 blog research

11-Noon: Client 2 social engagement

Noon – 12:30: Lunch

• Time blocking is essential for helping YOU with time management. Make sure you keep your boundaries with your clients. 
• Schedule breaks! You need time to rest and recharge to prevent burnout. Whether it’s a quick stretch or taking a walk, scheduling a break helps to maintain focus and productivity so it’s a good idea to pencil this in.

Outsource

I am always a fan of outsourcing! Taking those tasks that don’t need your personal touch and hiring someone to do for you will  free up so much time in your schedule. 

Cut clients

What!?! I know what you are thinking. Why would I cut clients?

If certain clients are taking too much time and brainspace sometimes it’s worth considering letting them go or reassessing their scope of work. When I cut back during the summer I always make sure to keep taking consultations, but I will start my wait list at the end of August or early September. That way, I am ready to hit the ground running once summer is over and the kids head back to school.
